The plight of software engineer.  You know when you are an ardent IT worker, when you start experiencing the following.  What are the characteristic of an IT savvy person?  How to recognize an IT addict?  Office worker @ home have some experience to share as follows:

  • I went to a movie in a multiplex.  In the middle of the movie, when I wanted to check the time, I kept repeatedly glancing at the bottom right corner of the theatre screen!

  •  Few days back I slept at 11:30 in the night and woke up in the morning, at 7:00 and suddenly thought that I have not completed eight hours and laughed at myself when I realized that.

  •  Once I was on call with my father, in India and mommy was not around.   I went on to ask, "Why is she not attending the status call?"

  • I once left home to go to the market wearing my office ID card, and did not realize till my friend asked me why I was wearing it!!

  • I misplaced my mobile phone somewhere in my hostel, was wondering if Google can find the same.

  • didn't login to Orkut, yahoo, Gmail, YouTube, etc... at my personal internet connection @ home... thinking it will be blocked any way.  Till I realized - I am @ home.

  • After talking to one of my friends, I ended the conversation saying ..." Ok bye...in case of any issues will call u back."

  • Sometimes when I mistakenly delete an SMS, from my mobile, I hope for a second, maybe it’s in the recycle bin.

  •  Once I was trying to swipe ID card instead of unlocking the house door with keys.

  • I was earlier working at the BPO of an international Bank.  We used to 'dispatch' lot of Debit cards and statements for the customers, and track its delivery later.  Once my Grandma was admitted in a hospital, my relative asked me ”how is your Grandma”? Still in hospital? “... and I replied to her “She is better now, she will be dispatched from the hospital tomorrow, and I will email you her tracking ID

  •  Getting a thought of doing an Alt+Tab while switching  from a news channel to the DVD while watching TV.

  •  I was with the data migration team before I moved in Bengaluru. I was tired after long hours of discussion about migration of environments. My friend got a transfer to Bengaluru and when my team mate asked about it I just said “ya she’s migrated to Bengaluru and haven’t given me the status updates

This reminds me of the famous movie ‘Modern Times’.

Modern Times is a 1936 American comedy film by Charlie Chaplin that has Tramp character struggling to survive in the modern, industrialized world. The film is a comment on the desperate employment and fiscal conditions many people faced in Chaplin's view, by the efficiencies of modern industrialization.  See the clip below:
