IT History: Prof. Zaveri - pioneer in the
Information Technology. IT is like almanac.
Mainframe systems of 1970 era: (from left) the system's IBM 1402 Card-Read
Punch,
1401 Processing Unit,
1403 Printer, and four 729 Magnetic Tape Units. Similar computers were
used in Tata Motors, Dr. Beck & co., LIC, Indian Railways, and so on. Mr.
Zaveri was trained to service these computer hardware.

This
image shows (from left) the IBM 1622 Card-Read Punch, 1623 Storage Unit (at the
rear) and the
1620 Central Processing Unit
(in front), which contained the console, arithmetic and logical unit, and core
storage. Similar computer was used in IITM (Indian Institute of Tropical
Meteorology).
ICL 1904 S mainframe computer system. This
was installed in the Regional Computer Center at University of Pune. First
data processing company in Pune, to offer payroll and account processing.
IBM leaves India. Department of Electronics moots CMC. Click on picture to
enlarge.
CMC takes over IBM plant (Safed pool, Bombay) and
IDM took over the card plant. Mr. Zaveri then joined CMC and was also
trained on ICL mainframe computers.
