Homeopathy

Mechanisms of Action

Diagnosis and Treatment

The word “homeopathy” is derived from two Greek words: homoios which means “similar” and pathos which means “suffering.” Collectively it may be called as “Principle of similar” that refers to current observations and experience of a doctor, that a medicinal substance will produce a healing response for the specific disease, symptoms, syndromes and so on.

  • Homeopathy was first originated in German by a German physician Samuel Hahnemann(1755 - 1843). Although it originated there, Germany lacked homeopathic hospitals and medical schools. Hence the knowledge of homeopathy migrated from Germany to United States along with the German immigrants.

  • Also, Robert Koch in 1890 observed that the medicines those seemed to be inhibiting the growth of bacteria causing Tuberculosis in-vitro (in the test tube) did not produce the same result when administered in-vivo (inside the living system). This shows the difference in  the action of medicaments based on the environment in which they are administered.

  •  In 1970's, tuberculosis seemed to have been nearly eradicated in the developed countries, although it was still prevalent in developing countries. Now its incidence is increasing, partly due to resistance of the tubercle bacillus to antibiotics.

  • In 1982, homeopathic treatments for several major diseases such as Tuberculosis and other diseases were mentioned in a book called "Biological Therapy with Homeopathic Remedies" written by Dr. Hans Heinrich. Reckeweg, president, Biological Homeopathic Industries (BHI), now called as Heel, Inc., Albuquerque, New Mexico.
